How can anyone try and justify this lawlessness...
This program lays out the deplorable conditions that plague long term care. When you see the ignorant immoral staff of an upper class nursing home kill a poor defenceless care resident (Eldon Mooney) it has to make your blood boil!! Then to lie about it as well is just the depths of debauchery!
Those of us that have had loved ones in long term care and have spent a lot of time there know how morally bankrupt many of the care workers are (not all) and they usually get a lot of direction from the Administrator that’s running the “show”, head nurse or both. None are above lying to cover up their abusive actions.
The use of Chemical Restraints is “industry standard” (direct quote from administrator of Cheam Village). They will use them regardless of whether there is consent or not. And to the naive who may question the drug they will pass it off as just a “medication” that is "needed" for the wellbeing of the person. They are NOT. They are dangerous drugs unapproved for the elderly with dementia. They are simply used for the convenience of staff to control the mobility of the elderly.
The “awakenings” project in Minnesota has shown there is a better way of caring for our loved ones and they don’t have to be drugged into submission. It has freed dementia residents from the dark, deplorable silence of restraint, to live the remainder of their life as a valued and loved member of the human family. Anyone who would want less for our loved ones in their final days is not fit to be caring for them, or making decisions that govern their care.
It’s time to hold ALL accountable who would do harm to our aging citizens. There needs to be serious and substantial deterrents in place, such as the jail time suggested in the UK for doctors who refuse to give up their addictive practise of prescribing anti-psychotic drugs for dementia patients. This needs to extend to all in health care (Administrators and nurses alike) who are using doctors as “enablers” for their uncompassionate, “easy fix” diabolic schemes. (I’ve had the unfortunate experience of meeting many of these so called “human” beings!)
A society that would want anything less than the very best, loving, compassionate care for the elderly is a society that is doomed.
