Wow. This uneducated rant appalls me. No one in the medical profession gets danger pay. Your sweet mom that you know and love doesn't always act the same way when you aren't there. We have educated Geri-psychologists who order meds to battle dementia and confusion every day. If she's not taking her meds, she gets an injection. It's the only way to maintain stable behavior. If you think you know much and can do a better job, you should have taken her home. Remember, you would only have 1 person to look after. Not 6 or more like the nurses or hundreds like the doctors. Sounds like you are trying to cover up your own neglect by shamelessly and ignorantly name drop the people who work so hard to serve a whole community. It's a hospital, not a private hotel. This is disgusting ignorance.
Firstly I would like to thank you for removing all doubt from my suspicions that the Health Care system is full of compassion-less, care-less people, with no conscience. This must be true for you to have made this personal attack on me "anonymously", without knowing me, the background of my education, my personal situation and health problems that might prevent me from looking after my mom without assistance, and the circumstances that led to this merciless tale. (Oh by the way...I tried to take my mother home - the hospital and Residential Services employee THAT HAD HER PUT THERE wouldn't let me, they said she was certified and I had no say in the matter... oddly enough, in the end, they broke the law trying to do this as well...) And sadly one of the 'better' nurses admitted that the treatment was indeed making my moms condition worse.
I would like to think you are not the voice of the majority of health care workers, because if you are, then there is no hope for better Health Care, and the abuse of the elderly will surely continue. It would appear that you must live in some kind of "ignorance bubble" because you are clearly not aware of any of the research done by the"professional" community regarding anti-psychotic medications and the elderly. Nor the fact that the drugs are "black boxed" in the US stating they are NOT to be used for people with dementia. Nor the fact that Health Canada sent notifications to Dr.'s three times warning of the adverse effects of using anti-psychotic medications on the elderly. Nor that in the UK, doctors were threatened with jail time if they did not stop the egregious practise. Nor, obviously are you aware of the laws within Canada's Charter, or International Human Rights! And I could say more but there really IS no point, as people like you really are incapable of "getting it"... Clearly a product of no conscience and no compassion. It appears you have chosen the wrong profession.
...You are correct my Anonymous Commenter "This is not a private hotel" - had it been, she would have been looked after ... "this is a hospital" and as such should have promoted "wellness and well being" instead of drugging into oblivion...perhaps you should be taking up the issues with those that stick the elderly in the hospital AGAINST their will and that of their family, instead of responding to blogs that reveal your own lack of self worth.
