Elder Abuse is running rampant in Canada. In BC it appears to be orchestrated by the government.

A New Government Document re:Anti-psychotics...

... Give Me a Break!

On October 25, 2012, a new document was born, and then silently slipped out under the radar regarding anti-psychotic use on the elderly in care who suffer from dementia.

Although, under the ‘Introduction’, it states it has been undertaken as a response to the ‘Anti-psychotic Review’ done in 2011, it is somewhat troubling to me (the Whistle-blower), that I was not informed of its existence.  This in spite of the fact that it is through my efforts in conjunction with CBC exposure and the help of MLA Bob Simpson that the “Review” was forced to take place!

Apparently this set of “guidelines” is supposed to help health care professionals with their decisions on how to treat those that are suffering from dementia. I have to wonder for whose benefit this really is?  To appease the Ombudspersons Office after their scathing review of care homes...or…???

One of the most troubling things about this document is that it is ONLY a “guideline”.  In other words it has things to ‘consider’ … but no one really has to follow them…

…So for those Administrators, Doctors, Nurses and others that are responsible for “caring” for the elderly, that already lack any conscience or compassion, this document is laughable...

...I would venture to guess most will never see it, or be made aware of it ... akin to the patients “bill of rights”, or “consent to treat” or ... virtually every law, rule, or regulation for care homes, that is either purposely broken, ignored, or never even heard of by care providers in the first place!

It would seem to me if the so called ‘health professionals’ have already been practising with methods that were clearly against the law and human rights and not been held accountable, then why would they now follow these “NEW” guidelines?

Without specific legislation put in place and significant fines or harsher penalties for those breaking the laws, you can hand out all the ‘guidelines’ you can think of, and there will never be any changes to the way that the elderly with dementia are treated.  It will be business as usual.  And when all is said and done it is * “BIG BUSINESS” that is running this show!

In my opinion this document is just another waste of taxpayers’ money and resources, in another effort to placate the naive, vulnerable or feeble minded in our society...OR...maybe just the Ombudspersons office!
